As mentioned before that population in Singkawang City is dominaned by three ethnics , namely Chinese, Malay and Dayak. In which Each ethnic has their own cultural event that always be performaned annually. There are two cultural events that always hold in Singkawang, they are Cap Go Meh and naik dango
First one is Cap Go MEh. In every year, there is a ritual celebration by Kong Hu Chu in Singkawang ,parade with displays Tatung / Sin Min / Louya / healer who wander on the road in the City of Singkawang. Ritual activity is started earlier in the night to enter their Vihara with the ritual to call gods.
On 15 days after Imlek, tatung will perform the ‘cleaning up the city’, which usually starts at 07.00 am to 14 .00 pm around to some Viharas that they passed by. Hotels at the time usually fully booked , for alternatively government through the Office of Culture and Tourism in Singkawang has prepare some houses for homesstay
Second is Naik Dango. Naik Dango is a ritual ceremony which contain customary meaning of the expression thankfulness”
, gratitude and honor to God on the results obtained from the harvest in the rice field . Dayak people conducted naik dango ceremony for every year for the first time take the rice from the barn. The main purpose of naik dango is to do a prayer for god (Nyagahatn) by a priest (panganyahatn) that conducted in the morning. The contents of the prayers are may god (Jubata) gave blessing and ask to use the rice that is stored in the barn for food.
In Dayak people in villages in the particular region , Naik Dango ceremony was conducted through four events. The four activities that are preparation “batutuk, matik, nyangahatn, and eat together.
